self destruction

Artist Statement: “My greatest adventure was a season I spent working as a groom for the Big Apple Circus. I held the reins of horses behind the curtain with one hand, and photographed performers with a camera held in the other. A quote describes circus performers as "people who dream extravagantly but live simply." This applies to my own life and my approach to art. I admire artists of the Ashcan School, who depicted everyday life with sincerity and passion. Following their example, I created a body of work over thirty years, documenting my own corner of the globe, Lynn, Massachusetts, in a variety of media. I also have a strong affinity for expressionistic work. Self Destruction, published in the Penn Review, is from a series of expressionistic ink and conte drawings.”
