The Night I Saw God Laugh

Caroline Kim

I think God laughs in stars. The type of side-splitting laughter where spit collects in the pool of your mouth and overflows down the sides. I think God laughs in stars because I think I saw God laugh the night we swam in the Luminous Lagoon in Jamaica. They say Man makes plans, and God laughs. Well, we made plans to bring our kids here in ten years, and God roared so loudly that His spit formed stars. Then the residue from the stars dripped down to the waters, sheathing our bodies in brilliant blue light.
